A Changing Public Administration and Policy: Towards Embracing Innovative, Strategic and Resilient Approaches

The Association for Middle East Public Policy and Administration (AMEPPA) is pleased to invite submissions for its annual conference. The title for the 2024 conference is: “A Changing Public Administration and Public Policy: Towards Embracing Innovative, Strategic and Resilient Approaches”. The Conference will be held on the 21^st and 22^nd of December 2024 at the American University in Cairo, Egypt.

The field of public administration and public policy is witnessing significant and rapid changes. Some positive changes are taking place through innovation, technology, strategic management, big data analysis and design thinking, to put a name to some of the features and dynamics in circulation. At other times, the changes have negative effects. These include the sustainable human damage of multiple international conflicts, the climate emergency, food crises, among others. Public policy and administration has struggled to keep up with these changes, but is intent on embracing new trends of building resilient systems, integrating AI and innovation planning, and developing new frameworks to deliver social equity for marginalized communities. How do public institutions remain dedicated to public service despite these global and regional upheavals? The AMEPPA conference aims to critically examine these emerging trends and global, regional, and national responses in these changing times. The conference will convene an array of regional and international scholars to discuss how promises of greener, technological and resilient futures are taking shape at the global, national and local levels. We seek to scrutinize and project plausible policy and administration solutions for an engaged public service for the region and globally.

AMEPPA welcomes original work from academics, practitioners, policy-makers, independent scholars, early career researchers, policy and administration graduate students, policy analysts from policy sciences, economics, humanities, arts, and social science disciplines, covering research on emerging trends on policy-making and administration globally.

The conference will focus on four tracks with sub-topics below, but all public policy and administration submissions are welcome:

- The pros and cons of AI in public administration reforms
- Data analytics, privacy and governance
- Reinventing rules, regulations and policies for AI use in government
- Algorithms and social disparities

Resilience in Policymaking and Administration
- Building resilience in Policy and Administrative Systems
- Economic resilience and community adaptation
- Policies for sustainability transitions
- Vulnerability, gender and marginalization
Towards Evidence Informed Policy Making in Resolving health, social and developmental inequalities
- Informal networks, grassroot governance and conflict resolution in PPA
- Managing resources, public commons, and environments
- Strategic management, efficiency, effectiveness in PPA
Teaching & Training Public Administration and Public Policy in Changing Times
- -New competencies for governments employees
- The role of Executive Training Programs and Centers
- Adaptation of Front-line Bureaucrats, managers and top administrators

The conference will include a number of plenary sessions with keynote speakers and several parallel sessions throughout the two days.
