Journal of Middle East Review of Public Policy and Administration
Author Guidelines
1- Publication Types
i. Original research articles
Research articles should not exceed 8,000 words, including references. All submissions must include a clearly defined research question, a structured literature review, and an explicit methodology section explaining the methods used and justifying their appropriateness for addressing the research question.
ii. Policy Notes
Policy notes are typically up to 4,000 words. They should address a current policy or administrative issue, offering analytical insight, evidence-based assessment, or informed policy recommendations. While a full theoretical framework may not be required, submissions should demonstrate analytical rigor and engage with relevant scholarship or policy debates.
iii. Practitioner Insights
This section is dedicated to public policy and administration professionals who wish to share practical experiences, institutional lessons, or reflections on real-life policy and administration issues. Submissions should not exceed 2,000 words. Practitioner insights do not require a formal theoretical or methodological section but should clearly connect practical experience to ongoing policy debates and highlight broader implications on theory and practice.
2- Peer Review Process
MERPPA follows a double-blind peer review process. All submissions are initially screened by the Editor to assess their relevance to the journal’s aims and scope and their adherence to submission guidelines. Manuscripts that pass this screening are sent to at least two reviewers with expertise relevant to the topic. Final publication decisions are based on reviewers’ reports and editorial assessment.
3- Data Sharing
All submissions must include a statement regarding the availability of data. Authors are encouraged to deposit datasets, interview protocols, and replication materials in a recognized repository, where appropriate and ethically permissible, to promote transparency and facilitate scholarly engagement.
4- Articles Formatting
i. Required Files

- The title of the article (ideally concise and less than 50 characters where possible).

The main manuscript file should not contain any identifying information and should include the abstract, keywords, main text, references, tables, and figures.

All submissions must follow the most recent APA citation and referencing style.
5- Research Ethics
For research involving human participants, authors must confirm that approval was obtained from a recognized Institutional Review Board (IRB) or equivalent ethics committee. Authors should clearly describe the measures taken to protect the safety, confidentiality, and well-being of participants.
MERPPA adheres to the core practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and addresses cases of research and publication misconduct in accordance with COPE guidelines.
