AutoCAD 23.1 [Latest]

Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.

Early history

In 1977, in the early years of his career, Ed Meyers (the inventor of AutoCAD) was working for the Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), as a self-described “graphics whiz” with a “glitchy” personality. During that time, DEC released one of the first graphics terminal workstations called the A-8. Ed realized that it was possible to write his own “graphics software” for this machine and so he did.

Ed decided to write the software as a hobby, and soon began referring to it as “AutoCAD.” Ed referred to his software in its nascent state as AutoCAD-1.5 and by January 1980, the first version of AutoCAD was released.

Despite its humble beginnings, AutoCAD-1.5 was a major leap forward. AutoCAD was significantly more powerful than the IBM-standard graphics package on the DEC-10 and the only available packages were extremely expensive. Ed wrote a unique, versatile, and innovative program for DEC, which sold for $75,000 a year. As the software gained in popularity, the price of AutoCAD was reduced. Eventually, the price of AutoCAD was kept down because it was the only commercial graphics package on the market.

Post-release history

By the time AutoCAD-2.0 was released in 1981, the number of users had increased significantly. Ed’s software was commercially successful and was only one of several similar and competing CAD software packages available. It was also the first graphics program that could generate 3-D objects. This capability set AutoCAD apart from the other programs on the market and it has been maintained throughout subsequent versions of the software.

AutoCAD went through many different versions in the next 20 years. These versions had some radical changes from each other. For example, the graphic capability was enhanced, the interface (what the user sees and what the user does) was revised, and the price decreased dramatically. The interface remains fundamentally the same as the first release.

Today, AutoCAD is the standard for commercial CAD. It still has loyal fans, but it is increasingly being replaced by newer and more powerful software. In 2000, Autodesk bought the rights to the AutoCAD software package from DEC. Then Autodesk released the next major version of AutoCAD. AutoCAD 2000 (also known as AutoCAD 2000: New

Visual LISP
VBA (Visual Basic for Applications)
Type library, an API to connect to AutoCAD.

AutoLISP is the commercial programming language that has been developed by CadSoft over a period of several years to extend AutoCAD as an embedded programming environment. It is available as a free download to anyone. It is used for creating macros, custom tools, and visual interfaces.

The AutoLISP programming language is an extension of LISP, a high-level functional programming language. AutoLISP can be run and edited in AutoCAD, unlike the other programming languages used in AutoCAD (Visual LISP, VBA, Type Library). It can also be compiled for use in an AutoCAD application plugin such as a custom tool or a tool panel.

AutoLISP is based on the ideas of an interpreter and a bytecode architecture, which gives it a unique capability. The interpreter is the most important and visible element of AutoLISP. It is very fast and can interpret large source code files quickly. Because of its unique bytecode, which is an intermediate representation of the source code, it is easily optimized. It allows the use of the interactive LISP environment. However, AutoLISP can also be used in the editor mode. In this case, AutoLISP is a fully functional LISP implementation.

Visual LISP (VLISP) is a visual, high-level programming environment with a toolset based on AutoLISP. The best known VLISP is AutoCAD Visual LISP (AutoLISP for AutoCAD).

Autodesk Exchange Apps
Autodesk Exchange Apps is a cloud-based application store offering third-party AutoCAD add-ons. Autodesk Exchange Apps is a programmatic way to connect and share information in AutoCAD and to perform tasks. Third-party developers can leverage the platform to create AutoCAD extensions that are directly available in the Autodesk Exchange Apps. These AutoCAD-based applications run directly in AutoCAD, are cloud-based and are accessed via a simple web browser interface.

What’s New in the AutoCAD?

Markup and Text-Editing Tools:

Edit design intent, using the new Markup assist feature. Mark the parts of your design you wish to edit with text. (video: 6:17 min.)

Extensible Markup Language (XML) Schematic Support:

Enter or import an XML schematic directly into the drawing and then use the new XML features to transform it into AutoCAD commands. Save your design as an XML document, and share it with others. (video: 4:11 min.)

Simplified Parameter Definition:

New settings are now saved in the drawing instead of individually in a separate dialog box. (video: 4:59 min.)

Dynamically Linked Drawings:

Save drawings and layers as templates so that they can be automatically opened on your next visit. (video: 5:06 min.)
