For the past two weeks, roadways around the Oakland Hills have been transformed by temporary trucks and large cranes. Construction crews are building new ramps in Oakland at 66th Avenue and Interstate 580. The ramps will divert traffic around the proposed Caldecott Tunnel West Ramp to the Port of Oakland.
The purpose of this project is to provide a safer alternative for the proposed expansion project. The construction is currently slated to begin in July 2017, and finish by the end of the year.
This project is a small portion of the construction necessary to complete the Caldecott Tunnel West Project.
The project will be constructed in four phases and is expected to be completed in November 2017.
